Floating concrete / material, technique, prototype.

The concrete piece is shaped like a leaf, a shell, or a wavy paper plate. It can become an extension of a common city park onto the park’s lake. It is a lounge chair for one person to enjoy floating and relaxing on the water while wondering about how concrete can float.

The flexible mold technique is used to fold the shape of this piece. A layer of soft dough concrete is sandwiched between two textiles, which first lies flat on the ground. Corner by corner the textile with the concrete layer gets lifted and low angled wooden wedges slide in below. The concrete stays in this position to harden. Folding a piece of paper inspired the boat shape; it stimulates the qualities of paper with it’s bent form.
